About Grant
Hello!
My name is Grant Mahr, I am a Contemporary Reverse Glass Painter and Freelance Graphic Designer living & working south of Madison Wisconsin. My work often takes on a unique style as it is generally driven by experimental and intuitive means. This process gives me the freedom to keep an open mind and find new ways of using various paints and mediums on an uncommon painting surface - GLASS. Influenced early on in life by family friend and renowned abstract artist Richard Lazzaro, I have grown a deep appreciation for artwork that challenges the traditional. Over the past decade I have been allowing my design and painting work to influence one another as they present an opportunity to grow my distinct style.
Experimenting with glass painting for the past decade, I have amassed quite a large body of evolving work. With an emphasis on psychedelic abstraction, my glass work is an ongoing effort to separate from the traditional. Exploring consciousness within the work is vital to the originality of the techniques. The intuitive process creates an ideal glimpse into the mind of the artist, giving the viewer an opportunity to interact with the work in a subjective way. With various textures, colors and mediums used, I tend to consider the making of my paintings just as important as the final result. Inspired by an openness to explore, I intend to continue playing with the idea of implying self reflection and subjectivity through art.
